What is Smart Piggy Bank?
I developed smart piggy bank as an online replacement to a paper notebook we kept to keep track of our kids’
allowance and spending.
Instead of handing our kids cash every week, we would maintain an allowance notebook to record allowances.
This way our kids didn’t have lots of cash in their room and they could see where they spent their money since each
deposit and withdrawal was recorded.
I wanted to teach the kids about interest and decided it
would be easier to automate that instead of trying to do it by hand. Hence I created Smart Piggy Bank.
The added benefit is now the allowance deposit happens automatically.

Is there real money involved?
The parents act as the bank and use Smart Piggy Bank as the method to keep track of the what is owed to the kids.
Smart Piggy Bank is an online method of allowance bookkeeping. It is not a bank.
Why not just open a bank account for the kids?
Well, I thought about that but the problem is that bank accounts don’t pay much interest.
I wanted to control the interest rate so the kids could really see the effect as an incentive to save.
What prevents kids from recording deposits into their account?
Nothing. However, each transaction is recorded with a date and who made the transaction.
The idea is that parents will get suspicious if they see deposits by the kid and the kid
didn’t give them any money to actually hold.
What if the kid needs cash?
Just hand them the money in cash and record it as withdrawal. Better yet, have your child record the withdrawal.
Who developed Smart Piggy Bank and how does it make money?
I am a dad with two young kids. I developed Smart Piggy Bank as a New Year’s resolution goal to
learn how to develop a web based application. Smart Piggy Bank was conceived, designed,
developed and deployed entirely by myself. I am happy that my kids are using it and glad if others find it useful.
What is your privacy policy and terms of use?
My policy is to make no promises so I can tell you no lies.
I am one guy and not inclined to hire a bunch of lawyers.
